Blackstone Bicycle Works
BBW programming empowers youth through bicycle education and provides a space to develop problem-solving, leadership, and life skills. In the past, our retail shop has been an important part of our offering to the community.
We focus entirely on youth programming and community education.
-
Youth Program
Our youth program uses bicycle advocacy, mechanics, safe cycling, and career exploration to create an inclusive community centering on Black youth from Woodlawn and surrounding neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side.
-
Community Workshops
We offer limited free community workshops throughout the year. We partner with a variety of schools, block clubs, riding groups, after-school programs, etc. that align with our goals and serve the same under-represented populations.
To further promote cycling education and independence in our community, we open our doors to our community members to come and fix their bikes.
Open Shop
Monday - Thursday 1pm - 3pm
2nd Saturday of the month 10am - 2pm
During summer, we lead a group ride every Saturday, leaving Experimental Station at noon to various destinations. We ride at a mild pace, and helmets are required.
We are putting this on hold currently due to the weather. We will resume again when our 61st Street Farmers Market moves outdoors. Check back again or contact us for details.
